Resilience

Resilience

Resilience refers to one’s ability to ‘bounce back’ or recover from life’s challenges, loss and other life setbacks. Resilience or rather this capacity to respond and cope is not something that one is born with, rather something that tends to develop over time, and comprises of various different aspects, some of which are internal and some interpersonal. The development of resilience is also largely shaped by the narratives and the cultural context one is conditioned into, per our social identities.

More and more, we are moving away from the idea that individuals and employees must ‘deal with’ their challenges alone to be ‘resilient’- understanding that a diverse range of skills and support, access and resources go into building emotional and psychological resilience. Social Support is a very important factor in building resilience. Take a look at Bruce Daisley’s work – Fortitude: Unlocking the Secrets of Inner Strength for a renewed understanding of resilience in today’s world.
