Self-love is an emotional state or feeling, related to how we feel about ourselves. It fuels self-care actions that promote well-being, which in turn can enhance the feelings of love and compassion towards oneself.
We usually think of meditation, exercise, massage, or spa treatments as possible ways of self-care. These ways of self-care will give us opportunities to take care of ourselves – body, mind, and spirit, and ensure that even our invisible needs are being met.
Self-care and self-love can also look like taking breaks, keeping ourselves hydrated, and drawing healthy boundaries. It may lead us to step away from that toxic dynamic, and create time for rest and rejuvenation.
As leaders, we can also create this space for self-care at work through mentalhealth and wellbeing policies.
