Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in Canada

January is considered as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in Canada. Part of Alzheimer’s disease awareness is being able to recognise the symptoms to begin early intervention in case of oneself or a loved one.

This disease can lead to memory impairment and a continuous decline in cognitive processes or thinking, which in turn affects personality, behavior and social skills. It impacts person’s ability to function independently and to even carry out simple daily tasks.

As of now there is still no known cure for Alzheimer’s, though certain medications are known to improve or slow progression of symptoms. Treatment focuses on also maximizing function and independence. People may also benefit from support groups and other programs that also support the caregivers.
